A man left a comment on one of my LinkedIn newsletters. He said it was a fascinating read, that he’d been following me for a while, and that he appreciated me sharing my expertise.
That comment stayed with me. Not just because it was kind, although it was. It reminded me that the knowledge you carry around so casually may be exactly what someone else needs to hear.
You Take Your Own Experience for Granted
You’ve lived with what you know for so long that it stops feeling remarkable. Then someone comes along and says, “I’ve been paying attention. This helped me.” Sometimes that’s what it takes to see the value in something you’ve been dismissing for years.
Blood, sweat, and tears turned out to be more than an expression for me recently. Blood worked both for me and against me.
When Your Own Body Becomes the Treatment
I have chronically dry eyes that feel scratchy and blur my vision, made worse by Tucson summers where opening the front door feels like checking the oven. My ophthalmologist recommended serum tears, eye drops made from my own blood. A lab draws several vials, spins the blood in a machine, and separates out the serum. It gets frozen into tiny vials of golden liquid, with one kept in the refrigerator for daily use.
Every time I use one of those drops, I think about how strange and wonderful that is. Something from my own body is drawn out, processed, and returned to me in a form made specifically to help me. It really does look golden. It’s also priced as though someone noticed.
Then the blood became considerably less helpful when a nosebleed sent me to an ear, nose, and throat specialist for chemical cauterization. Not a fun way to spend a weekend. As for sweat, living in the Sonoran Desert takes care of that on its own.
What Blood, Sweat, and Tears Really Mean
When you say something required your blood, sweat, and tears, you mean you gave it a lot. Time. Effort. Pain. Persistence. Heart.
That sounds dramatic until you think about your own life. How much have you learned the hard way? How many times have you had to start over, solve a problem nobody trained you for, figure out what worked, and keep going when it would’ve been easier to quit?
That’s experience. And yet you probably treat it like it doesn’t count. You keep thinking you need to learn one more thing before you have anything worth saying. Meanwhile, you may be sitting on 30, 40, or 50 years of knowledge and acting like it’s no big deal because it came from living instead of a certificate.
What Serum Tears Taught Me About Findability
Serum tears aren’t created by adding something foreign to the body. They’re made by drawing from what’s already there, separating what’s useful, and turning it into something that helps you see more clearly.
That’s the same process I use with my clients. I look at what they’ve lived, what they know, what they’ve solved, what they’ve survived, and what they keep taking for granted. Then I help them find the part that matters. We put words around it. We shape it so someone else can understand it.
That’s where findability begins. You can’t be found for what you know if you keep treating what you know like it’s no big deal. People can’t recognize your value if you never name it. And they can’t connect with your work if your best ideas are still sitting inside your head, waiting for you to decide they’re important enough to share.
The Freedom to Stop Waiting
There’s a kind of freedom in no longer waiting for someone else to tell you your experience counts. The freedom to stop shrinking what you know because it came naturally, slowly, or the hard way. The freedom to use what you’ve carried inside you for years.
Some of it may have cost you blood, sweat, and tears. That doesn’t make it too messy to use. It may be the very thing someone else needs.
If this resonates and you’re ready to stop being the best-kept secret in your industry, the 5-Day Findability Challenge is where to start. Five days. A real system. And a presence that AI, search, and real humans can finally find. Join the challenge here.
